BROKEN: Rock, Paper, Scissors
When the game comes to life, the power dynamics between rock, paper and scissors is expected. What isn’t expected is the social dynamics.
Rock is awoken by a sound, while atop his lonely mesa – perhaps from a fluttering sound of some sort. As he peeks over the ridge to see what it is, his eyes fall upon the paper forest and spies Paper lovingly caress each flower, ensuring they open their paper petals to fully bloom. Rock is amazed at her magical power and seems to even become enamored with her.
Then a cutting sound of a metal blade is heard off in the distance, where only Rock can see and hear the source – it’s a dark, slick and slender creature that we know as Scissors but is a foreigner to Rock. After perking up, to get a better view of the menacing creature, Rock slips and tumbles all the way down next to Paper.
He knows that she’s in danger and tries to drag her by the arm to safety but discovers that his hand starts to fracture by her very touch. Still fearful for her life, he beckons her with an urgent hand gesture, to run away with him. When they’re cornered, in front of a valley wall, Scissors discovers his destructive power over Paper but Paper decides to stand up for herself, and her paper plants, just to be deftly cut down by him.
Furious of Scissors’ attack, Rock releases his rage with a sky-high jump and a double-fisted downward strike upon Scissors, leaving nothing but dust and shards of thin blades pierced into the ground. Without a moment to spare, Rock sees to Paper but finds her badly hurt and pieces of her start to float away in the wind. How can he help her if he falls apart just by her touch?
